Squad Leveling & Composition
How to build and grow your squad effectively.
Build one powerful main squad
The most common early mistake is spreading resources across three or four squads. Concentrate your best heroes, shards, Skill EXP, gear, and upgrade materials in Squad 1. Your other squads are mainly for gathering resources and supporting rallies until your main squad is established.
A strong squad depends on eight systems working together: heroes, star levels, skills, gear, tech research, Jet, Wingmen, and Base Level. After difficult fights, share the battle report with an experienced player; it often reveals weak tanks, misplaced gear, or an attacker in the wrong slot.
This strategy is intended especially for newer and low-spending players. Concentration gives much better results than trying to level everything evenly.
Heroes, roles, and formation
Hero quality
- Gold / Legendary: the endgame standard. Your goal is five Legendary heroes in the main squad; invest here first.
- Purple: useful early and often effective against monsters, but replace them as your Legendary roster grows.
- Blue: do not spend scarce development resources on them.
A 3-star Legendary hero will generally outperform a 5-star Purple hero.
Formation bonus
| Matching hero types | Squad bonus |
|---|---|
| 3 of the same type | +5% HP / ATK / DEF |
| 3 of one type + 2 of another | +10% HP / ATK / DEF |
| 4 of the same type | +15% HP / ATK / DEF |
| 5 of the same type | +20% HP / ATK / DEF |
The three hero types are Warrior, Tactical, and Assault. Early on, correct roles and raw strength matter more than matching types. Move toward three, then four, and finally five Legendary heroes of one type as your roster expands.
Every squad uses two tanks in front and three attackers in back. The shield icon identifies a tank; the gun or healer icon identifies a backline attacker.
Position heroes correctly
Slot behavior can decide a close fight:
| Slot | Damage received | Best choice |
|---|---|---|
| Front-right | Most | Your strongest, best-equipped tank |
| Front-left | High | Your second tank |
| Back-center | Least | Your strongest DPS attacker |
| Back-left / back-right | Medium | Your remaining attackers, ordered by strength |
The front-right tank is the main focus of incoming fire. If the weaker tank is placed there, it can fall early and expose the whole backline. Back-center is the safest position, so use it for the attacker that produces the most damage.
Team priorities
- Team 1: main attack squad; receives all best heroes, gear, and resources.
- Teams 2 and 3: resource collection and rally support; keep their gear at Level 0.
- Long-term goal: one five-hero squad for each type—Warrior, Assault, and Tactical—but finish your main squad before investing deeply in the others.

Star levels and skills
| Star target | Shards for this star | Total shards | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 star | 25 | 25 | First development step |
| 2 stars | 50 | 75 | Continue your main five |
| 3 stars | 100 | 175 | Achievable target; skills can reach Level 10 |
| 4 stars | 300 | 475 | Priority target; unlocks the fourth skill and Level 20 skills |
| 5 stars | 500 | 975 | Ultimate target; skills can reach Level 30 |
At 4 stars, every hero unlocks a Specialty skill that gives +20% ATK, DEF, and HP, plus +10% Skill Cooldown Speed. This makes four stars the most important practical target for all five main heroes.
Each hero has four skills. Skill upgrades cannot be reset or recycled, so read each ability and ask for advice before committing Skill EXP. At five stars, only three of the four skills can reach Level 30; choose based on the hero’s role and battle reports.
Collect Legendary shards
Check the Alliance, VIP, and Trial Shops every Monday, and the Honour Shop every month. Prioritize Gold shards. When pillaging trucks, target trucks carrying hero shards. Paid players can also use targeted daily hero packs and Thursday Hero Day offers, but the same rule applies: focus spending on the five heroes in the main squad.
Gear: match the item to the role
| Gear | Role | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Vest | Tank | Best defensive item; level first |
| Helmet | Tank | Secondary defensive item |
| Rifle | Attacker | Best damage item; level first |
| Scope | Attacker | Secondary damage item |
Aim for Legendary gear on every main-squad hero. Purple gear is temporary; dismantle it after replacement. Dismantle Blue and Green gear at the Gear Craft Centre.
Keep every item on non-main squads at Level 0. Dismantle any upgraded secondary-squad gear and reuse the recovered stones on Squad 1.
The Gear Craft Centre lets you craft, fuse lower-tier materials, and dismantle gear while recovering stones from upgraded pieces. Equip your highest Vests and Helmets on the two tanks, and your highest Rifles and Scopes on the three attackers.
Level every main-squad item to 10 before pushing any item to 20. Then repeat toward Level 20. Levels 10, 20, 30, and 40 grant major milestone buffs; Level 40 also unlocks gear stars. A Level 10 Purple item is roughly comparable to a Level 0 Legendary item, so begin collecting Legendary equipment early. After Level 20, use battle reports to decide whether your strongest attacker’s Rifle or primary tank’s Vest deserves extra investment.
Jet (Sky Fighter)
Jet levels and weapons provide passive buffs to the entire squad. Collect Fighter Parts and Combat Chips, and plan upgrades around the next milestone:
| Level | Important unlock |
|---|---|
| 30 | Inferno Missile upgrade |
| 40 | RX-2 Viper; Fighter ATK +5,000 |
| 50 | Inferno Missile can deal 22% extra damage |
| 70 | Jamming increases damage taken by 26% for 3.2 seconds |
| 90 | Bonus damage rises to 45% |
| 100 | RX-3 Orion; All Hero ATK +5% |
| 110 | Jamming duration rises to 4.2 seconds |
| 140 | RX-4 Destroyer; All Hero Skill DMG +2% |
| 190 | RX-5 Phantom; all heroes take 5% less damage |
If you are close to a milestone—for example Level 68—finish the push to Level 70 instead of stopping just below the large bonus.
The Jet also has six component slots. Level the components you receive, buy useful parts from the Alliance and VIP Shops, and save Fighter Component Chests for VS Day 3 before opening and fusing them.
Wingmen
Match the Wingman type—Warrior, Tactical, or Assault—to the type of your main heroes. Four fixed positions provide different effects:
| Position | Effect |
|---|---|
| Initiate | Opens with a shield, then reduces party damage after it expires |
| Defense | Adds DEF to all heroes and extra permanent DEF to the frontline |
| Attack | Jet bombing temporarily raises ATK and increases bombing targets |
| Support | Jet bombing raises backline damage and reduces incoming enemy Battle Skill damage |
Progress from Green → Blue → Purple → Gold, with four Gold Wingmen as the goal. Purple Wingmen become upgrade material only after you have the Gold replacements you need.
Check the type carefully before using a Wingman as fodder. Labels can be unclear, and evolution requires duplicates of that same Wingman. Keep useful duplicates whenever possible.
Base Level and soldiers
Each Base Level raises the Hero Level Cap by 5 levels. Upgrade only the prerequisite buildings needed for efficient Base progression instead of leveling every building equally. For example, keep one required Drill Ground current rather than forcing all three to match your Base.
Keep one Soldier Training Camp upgrading whenever possible. Higher troop tiers create one of the largest direct gains in squad strength:
| Soldier tier | Required Base Level |
|---|---|
| T7 | 20 |
| T8 | 24 |
| T9 | 27 — the main target for every player |
| T10 | 30 — requires substantial investment |
There is a separate Training Centre for Warrior, Tactical, and Assault heroes. Prioritize the Centre matching your main squad; avoid spreading early resources equally across all three.
Tech research for Squad 1
Research is easy to neglect but supplies some of the strongest permanent buffs. Costs rise deeper in each tree, so complete efficient upgrades near the top while working toward the valuable lower nodes.
- Hero tree: invest in the branch matching your main squad (Warrior, Tactical, or Assault). Spend only enough in the other branches to unlock progress. Work toward the bottom All Heroes ATK, DEF, HP, and Damage skills.
- Soldier tree: prioritize Soldier ATK, DEF, and HP. Soldier Load is less important for combat.
- Squad 1 tree: excellent value and the least expensive of these trees. It improves hero stats, march speed, and killed-in-action reduction. Use it whenever research would otherwise sit idle.
- Super Soldiers tree: extremely important but expensive and requires Research Data. Prioritize Damage to Heroes and enhanced soldier combat stats. Research Data is scarce, so coordinate this tree with Alliance Competition research and spend it deliberately.
Simple order: keep Squad 1 research moving, develop the hero type you actually use, strengthen your soldiers, and steadily advance Super Soldiers without scattering resources into unused hero classes.
